Initially LWR broadcast each weekend from early 1983 using council tower blocks. After a large number of raids, the operators decided to set up a permanent private transmitter location where the equipment could not be removed during a raid. The transmitter could only be confiscated following the issue of a court order. From around March 1984 the station then operated in this way 7 days a week until August 1984. The station closed down on the day before the introduction of the 1984 Telecommunications act.
