JFM

JFM was started by Radio Jackie's Brian Anthony. Initially the tests were announced as Jackie FM, but all links with Jackie were gone by the time regular broadcasts started in late 1981. JFM broadcast Jazz Funk and Soul music, and soon started using Club DJs who would pay money to present programmes where they could plug their Club nights.

JFM eventually started broadcasting 7 days a week, taking advantage of the fact that, in the event of a raid, the authorities could not confiscate any equipment without a court order.

The 1984 Telecommunications Act put an end to the loophole, and it is thought JFM battled on, finally closing early in 1985.
